Kon Knueppel makes NBA history as the fastest player to reach 100 three-pointers
Kon Knueppel didn’t need much time to announce himself on the NBA stage. On Monday night, the Charlotte Hornets rookie made history by becoming the fastest player in NBA history to reach 100 career made three-pointers, accomplishing the feat in just 29 games.
Knueppel entered the matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena sitting on 99 made threes. Late in the first quarter, he caught a pass from Sion James and calmly knocked down the shot that pushed him to 100, breaking a league record that had stood since Lauri Markkanen’s rookie season. Markkanen previously held the mark, reaching 100 threes in 41 games. Knueppel did it 12 games faster, underlining just how explosive his shooting start has been.
The milestone also shattered a Hornets franchise record. Brandon Miller had previously been the fastest Charlotte player to reach the mark, doing so in 43 games during his rookie campaign. Knueppel’s rapid rise puts him in rare company and reinforces why Charlotte selected him as the No. 4 overall pick out of Duke in last summer’s draft.

Despite the historic night, the Hornets couldn’t turn it into a win. Charlotte fell 139-132 to Cleveland, marking their second straight loss and dropping them to 9-20 on the season. Knueppel finished with 20 points, shooting an efficient 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, showing once again that his shooting record was no fluke.

Cleveland was powered by Donovan Mitchell, who led all scorers with 30 points and knocked down six three-pointers. Darius Garland added 27 points, while De’Andre Hunter chipped in another 27 off the bench as the Cavaliers improved to 16-14 on the season. Mitchell now leads the league with 111 made threes, while Knueppel sits second overall at 104, an incredible number for a rookie.
For Charlotte, LaMelo Ball led the way with 23 points and nine assists, while Brandon Miller also scored 20 points. Even in defeat, Knueppel’s performance stood out as another sign of his growing importance to the Hornets.

So far this season, Knueppel is averaging 19.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, and he currently leads all rookies in scoring. His ability to stretch the floor, score at volume, and stay composed under pressure has quickly made him one of the league’s most exciting young players.
While the Hornets are still searching for consistency, Knueppel’s record-breaking start offers plenty of optimism. At just 29 games into his NBA career, he’s already rewriting the record books—and it feels like this is only the beginning.
