Carlos Alcaraz ends a defining chapter with Juan Carlos Ferrero after 7 years

Alcaraz has officially announced the end of his long and successful partnership with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, bringing an emotional seven-year journey to a close. The world No. 1 confirmed the decision in a heartfelt statement, describing the split as difficult but filled with gratitude and respect for everything they achieved together.

“We started this journey when I was barely a kid,” Alcaraz wrote. “Throughout all this time, you’ve been by my side on an incredible path, both on and off the court. I’ve enjoyed every single step with you.”

The 22-year-old added that while he wished they could have continued, he was thankful for the growth, lessons, and unforgettable memories they shared. Ferrero, a former world No. 1 himself, echoed those emotions. “Today is a difficult day,” he said. “Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when there are so many shared experiences behind it. We have been an incredible team despite the challenges, and I am sure Carlos will continue to achieve great success.” Ferrero also expressed confidence that their paths may cross again someday, saying that good memories and good people have a way of reconnecting.

Carlos Alcaraz confirms an emotional split from longtime coach Juan Carlos Ferrero following a historic partnership

The partnership between Alcaraz and Ferrero began when Alcaraz was just 15 years old. Under Ferrero’s guidance, Alcaraz developed into one of the most dominant players of his generation. During their time together, Alcaraz won six Grand Slam titles and 24 tour-level trophies, while also becoming the youngest player in history to reach world No. 1 in 2022 at just 19 years old.

The past season was one of Alcaraz’s most successful yet. In 2025, he recorded a career-high 71 match wins and lifted eight tournament trophies, further cementing his place at the top of men’s tennis. Earlier this month, Ferrero and Samuel López—who joined Alcaraz’s team last December—were named ATP Coaches of the Year, an award voted on by fellow coaches. Ferrero had also won the honor previously in 2022.

Despite the split, Alcaraz made it clear there is no bitterness between them. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for turning childhood dreams into reality,” he wrote, acknowledging Ferrero’s role in shaping both his career and his character. Ferrero responded with similar warmth, thanking Alcaraz for the journey and wishing him nothing but success moving forward.

Alcaraz has not yet confirmed whether he will appoint a full-time replacement for Ferrero. For now, the focus remains on honoring a partnership that helped redefine modern tennis—and ended not in conflict, but with mutual respect and appreciation.
