Vaibhav Suryavanshi rewrites record books with a historic rise across formats

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s rise over the past year has been nothing short of extraordinary, with the teenage batter producing one record-breaking performance after another across formats and levels. Since making headlines in the IPL, Suryavanshi has continued to back up the hype with consistent and explosive displays, proving that his talent is far more than a fleeting spark.

Following the IPL, Suryavanshi went on a prolific run in youth cricket, scoring centuries against both England and Australia. The England tour, in particular, stood out as a major breakthrough. He piled up 355 runs at a staggering strike rate of 174.01, dominating bowling attacks and showing remarkable maturity for his age. That momentum carried straight into domestic competitions back home.

Earlier this month in Kolkata, Suryavanshi became the youngest player to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when he smashed an unbeaten 108 off just 61 balls against Maharashtra. Soon after, he raised the bar again by recording the fastest 150 in men’s List A cricket, reaching the milestone in only 59 deliveries. In just 15 youth ODIs, he now averages an impressive 51.13, with two centuries and three half-centuries, striking at 158.79—numbers that underline his aggressive yet effective approach.

His performances have not been limited to one standout innings. In one remarkable knock, Suryavanshi was dismissed for 190 off 84 balls, an innings packed with 16 fours and 15 sixes. That effort came in only his seventh List A match, having made his debut against Madhya Pradesh in December 2024.

The run of form continued overseas as well. In Doha last month, Suryavanshi smashed a 42-ball 144 against the UAE at the Rising Stars Asia Cup, registering the joint-third fastest century by an Indian in men’s T20 cricket. The innings further cemented his reputation as one of the most dangerous young hitters in the game.

The year 2025 has truly been a breakout season. In IPL 2025, Suryavanshi featured in seven matches, scoring 252 runs at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 206.55. Earlier in the season, he also hammered a 95-ball 171 at the Under-19 T20 Asia Cup in the UAE, reinforcing his ability to perform under pressure.

His latest milestone came on the opening day of the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi, Suryavanshi became the youngest player in history to score a century in men’s List A cricket. At just 14 years and 272 days, he reached his hundred in only 36 balls, marking his first senior century outside the T20 format.

Already the youngest pick in IPL auction history and the youngest centurion in IPL cricket, Suryavanshi’s journey is only gathering pace. With the Under-19 World Cup on the horizon, his record-breaking rise suggests Indian cricket may be witnessing the emergence of a truly generational talent.
