England investigate viral Ben Duckett video as questions emerge

England’s cricket authorities are working to establish the facts after an apparent video featuring opener Ben Duckett began circulating widely on social media, prompting fresh scrutiny during an already difficult tour. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed it is aware of the footage and has launched an internal review, but stressed that it will not comment further until all the details are verified.

The video, which has not been independently authenticated, appears to show Duckett in conversation with a group of people who ask him whether he knows how to get home. The clip emerged following England’s short break in Noosa between the second and third Tests, a trip that some reports compared to a “stag do.” Those claims were quickly addressed by Rob Key, the managing director of men’s cricket, who defended the players while acknowledging the need to investigate.

“We’ve got enough ways of finding out exactly what happened,” Key said. “From everything I’ve heard so far, they were pretty well behaved. They had lunch, had dinner, didn’t go out late, and had the odd drink.” He added that excessive drinking would be “completely unacceptable” and made it clear that the ECB would take action if standards had been breached.

England’s players were under constant attention during the four-day stay in Noosa, with TV crews, photographers, and reporters present, limiting their ability to fully switch off. Key emphasized that while he has no issue with players taking time to relax and reset, any suggestion of excessive alcohol consumption would be a serious concern.

An ECB spokesperson confirmed awareness of the content circulating online, stating that the board has clear expectations around behavior and established processes when conduct is questioned. “We will not comment further at this stage while we establish the facts,” the spokesperson said.

The situation comes at a challenging moment for England, who remain 3-0 down in the series after losing the third Test by 82 runs despite showing signs of improvement. With the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground approaching, England have a chance to restore some pride before the final match in Sydney on January 3.

For now, the focus remains on understanding the circumstances surrounding the video, while England attempt to regroup both on and off the field.
