US Open 2025: Carlos Alcaraz Dominates Jannik Sinner to Lift Title and Reclaim World No. 1
On Sunday, September 7, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner faced off at Arthur Ashe Stadium in their seventh ATP Tour final clash. Sinner, the defending champion, sought to retain his crown, while Alcaraz aimed to spoil the celebration and reclaim the World No. 1 spot.
Ahead of the clash, much of the talk revolved around whether Carlos Alcaraz could trade flair for precision to counter Jannik Sinner’s trademark consistency. The Spaniard did exactly that, delivering near-flawless tennis in front of US President Donald Trump to seal a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory.
In his post-match press conference, Carlos Alcaraz was asked how rewarding it felt to defeat Jannik Sinner and bring an end to his 63-week reign as World No. 1.
Carlos Alcaraz said, “It’s incredible to achieve the goals I set at the start of the year. Regaining the World No. 1 spot was one of my primary objectives this season, and accomplishing it feels amazing.”
He described reclaiming the No. 1 ranking as a “dream,” adding:
“So for me, achieving this once again is a dream. Winning a Grand Slam on the same day makes it even more special. This is what I’ve been working for, and I’m thrilled to live these moments.”
After the final, Sinner acknowledged in his press conference that he felt “very predictable” on court and emphasized the need to introduce more variety into his game. When asked if he agreed and whether he finds Sinner’s style easy to read, Alcaraz gave a thoughtful response.
Alcaraz clarified that he doesn’t view Sinner as predictable. He explained that their familiarity stems from facing each other numerous times and closely analyzing each other’s games.

Carlos Alcaraz said, “I wouldn’t say Sinner is predictable, but I know him well. We’ve played so many matches, and we both study each other’s games. I watch his matches because I love his style and to analyze how he plays.”
Alcaraz added that while some patterns in Sinner’s game might appear familiar, actually countering him on court is still an immense challenge.
“So, I wouldn’t call him predictable, but I understand his style and know his key weapons. I focus on that, yet even if parts seem familiar, it’s incredibly tough to sustain long rallies against him,” he added.
In the latest ATP rankings, Carlos Alcaraz tops the chart with 11,540 points, followed by Jannik Sinner with 10,780 points. The gap widens further, as No. 3 Alexander Zverev has 5,930 points.

During the press conference, Alcaraz shared his thoughts after being told that his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, had called his performance “perfect.” He reflected on Ferrero’s praise and shared his own perspective on the match.
The 22-year-old revealed that Ferrero’s praise meant a lot, especially considering the high expectations and standards his coach always demands.
Carlos Alcaraz said, “It’s amazing to make my coach feel that way, especially since he has such high standards. He always wants me to play my best, and he rarely says I played perfectly, so this feels like a huge win for me.”
Carlos Alcaraz dominated Jannik Sinner in the 2025 US Open final, playing flawlessly with zero double faults and 42 winners, compared to Sinner’s four double faults and 21 winners, securing a straight-sets victory.

Looking ahead, he confirmed that completing the Career Grand Slam is a top goal at next year’s Australian Open. “Timing doesn’t matter—what matters is finishing it, whether next year or later,” he added.
Carlos Alcaraz has claimed his sixth Grand Slam title, becoming the second-youngest male to reach this milestone. He also joins Rafael Nadal (2008) as the only players to beat a World No. 1 in multiple Grand Slam finals.
